Laying Sod
Does your landscaping cry out for a new lawn? If so, you may be grappling with a common question: Is it better to start new lawns from seed, or by laying sod? Both methods have their pros and cons. Laying sod is fast and produces high-quality new lawns, but it's more expensive than sowing seed. If money is no object and you need a great-looking lawn in a hurry, call Millennium lawn care now!

1.  We will remove the old lawn and/or weeds, if any exist. We will do this by digging them out with a flat-bladed shovel (making sure we get the roots). Before proceeding further, we will have your soil pH tested. Most lawn grasses prefer a pH of 6.0 to 7.5. If the test reveals that you need to adjust the pH we will do so in conjunction with Step #2.
2.  Then we break up the compacted soil with a tiller. Tillers (also called rototillers) will be rented from home depot rental center.
3.  Then we spread a starter fertilizer over the now-loosened soil. This type of fertilizer is high in phosphorus, the middle number in the NPK sequence on a fertilizer bag.
4.  Also we spread a soil conditioner over the soil, compost will serve just as well.
5.  Next we till the starter fertilizer and soil conditioner into the soil. This is a lot of work, but good soil preparation is one key to success in laying sod to start new lawns.
6.  Now we rake the soil to begin to level it out, removing any rocks and debris that we find. Then to avoid problems with excess water-runoff, we make sure that any site grading we do allows water to flow away from your house.
7.  Then we lay the sod through out entire yard working from the outer edges starting at the far left corner (first row) then on the far left corner (second row), working our way in towards the center with subsequent strips.
8.  Once we're done laying sod, we use a roller. Pushing it over the sod to press it down firmly against the soil. This removes air pockets, promoting good contact with the soil, allowing your sod's roots to go to work immediately.
